Your sweet babies will grow and change faster than you can imagine! It is essential to capture their milestones such as when they begin sitting independently, their first birthday, and yearly portraits to document their growth. Plymouth area photographer Renee Walston is here to help you document all these memories!
You may be wondering what truly goes on in a custom child portrait session. What makes these sessions different from your everyday school photos or mini-sessions? Let’s take a peek at what makes these sessions so special.
In advance of the session, Renee will work with you to capture a setting and style that will not only look timeless but will also capture the personalities of each of your children. Sessions may be held in studio, at the beach, in a wooded park, or at several unique locations around the area. Together, you will through a detailed set of questions that will help her create portraits that you will cherish for years to come. She will assist you in outfit and accessory selection from headbands to shoes to flowers to vintage props. Need assistance with actually shopping for your outfits? Feel free to ask, and she’ll be happy to provide you with some excellent resources. The studio closet is full of wardrobe pieces in a variety of sizes.
Once you arrive at the session location, Renee will take approximately 10-15 minutes to interact with your children on their level. Her camera stays safely tucked away, and this gives them the opportunity to get comfortable with her before she starts snapping away. You will laugh, play, and she will do everything possible to capture your children’s unique expressions and natural smiles. As long as it’s okay with you, Renee will provide them with a special treat at the end of the session as a reward for their hard work. Typically, sessions last about 45-60 minutes from start to finish.
Renee’s work doesn’t end after you say your goodbyes! Once she uploads her images to her computer, the real magic begins. She hand edits each image to bring out the natural beauty of your children and enhance their surroundings. Bruises, bumps, and blemishes are all a part of childhood, but they do not have to be a part of your finished artwork.
Renee’s favorite part of the process takes place approximately two weeks after the conclusion of your session. You will return to the studio for your session premier appointment where you will view all your edited images and will place your product order. She will work with you closely to determine what products and finishes best suit your needs. Your photographs will be turned into works of art that your family will cherish for years to come!
